In my over 30 years of experience as a senior strategy consultant (BCG, Booz, Deloitte), one of the few consistent themes has been the importance of Leadership - whether it is focused on performing/executing or transforming/disrupting. We can all be better leaders, with the right coaching and support. I trained as an Integral Coach and feel that this is exactly what I am meant to do at this stage of my life and career. I approach my work as a coach with reverence and care and have been able to build deep impactful relationships with my clients.
I grew up mostly in India but spent time in various continents and countries. I came to the United States at age 18 for undergraduate school where I met my future wife, and raised two children (now young adults).
Over the course of my lifetime, experiencing the varying cultures of many countries and many companies has led me to a clearer understanding of my purpose in this world. I started seeing a pattern that I felt most fulfilled when I was able to assist someone in ways that were deeper than just helping them achieve business results. After a few years of exploration, I discovered the work of an executive coach to be a good fit; it is a unique role where I can bring an entire career of experience and have the type of impact that I consider most important.
I am a Professional Certified Integral Coach through New Ventures West, as well as an Associate Certified Coach accredited by the International Coaching Federation.
As a senior member of Korn Ferry’s Board and CEO services practice, I am privileged to coach and guide clients through individual and team coaching modalities.
My approach to coaching is based on the fundamental belief that most clients have greater competencies, strengths, and resources than they may be aware of. The collaborative work of coaching is to help the client discover what would serve them best and then support them in making choices and strengthening competencies. I often incorporate poetry, music, and somatic practices to reach clients on a deeper level than just purely intellectual inquiry.
In some cases where a client invites opinions, suggestions, and advice, and I feel that my professional experience allows me to have greater insight, I will shift to more of a consulting model. This can also be helpful when the client is struggling with an issue that is urgent and where there is an 'objective' solution e.g., help me refine my message for the board presentation next week.
Once the client and I have agreed on the topics and areas for focus, we begin our work in hour-long sessions, every 2-3 weeks.
I utilize multiple models of adult development from psychology, management science, philosophy, and the Eastern Wisdom traditions. These development models support me in empowering clients to develop the competencies needed to be self-generating and self-supporting, after our coaching engagement.
In order to achieve long-lasting results of building competencies that are flexible, sustainable, and resourceful enough to become applicable to situations in both the present and the future - I encourage my clients to integrate their development into the automatic habits of their bodies and behavior by developing customized practices for each client to work with between sessions.
Our work and practices are usually organized into three areas of leadership (as adapted from Ken Wilber's models): Personal Leadership, Inter-Personal Leadership and Results Leadership.
